Haiti Foundation Against Poverty

About

Following the devastating January 12 earthquake, the Haiti Foundation Against Poverty™ is directing resources to disaster relief and infrastructure repair in Port-au-Prince and the surrounding area. You can donate to support this effort here. Thank you for your support.

The Haiti Foundation Against Poverty™, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization (IRS documentation viewable here and form 990 here), was founded by Mallery Thurlow in 2007 to empower poor, widowed, and orphaned Haitians and to spread the message of the Gospel.

We work primarily in the area of Port-au-Prince, providing impoverished Haitians with:

  • Education
  • Child Sponsorships
  • Medical Missions
  • Small Business Support
  • Food Distributions
  • Orphan Care

About the Oganization

Visiting Haiti on a mission trip, founder Mallery Thurlow witnessed firsthand the abject poverty of the residents of Haiti, and was motivated to do something about the plight of the poor and disadvantaged there. In 2007, she established the Haiti Foundation Against Poverty™, a nonprofit focused on providing education, health care, and even more basic necessities to the residents of this impoverished island nation.

The organization’s primary goals include improving education, health care, and child support for Haitians, and encouraging small business development in Haiti. In 2006, Mallory and began serving the poor through food distributions and by sponsoring children’s education. Within our first year of operation alone, we grew from sponsoring 12 children to sponsoring over 120.

In 2008 we opened our own elementary school, Les Bours School of Hope in Port-au-Prince. We currently have 140 students enrolled, and our sponsorship program exceeds 215 children!

In 2009 we opened our first clinic, which is located at Les Bours. Our clinic provides testing and care for all of our students, and has open clinic days for the Port-au-Prince community of Cite Soleil throughout the year.

Mallory Thurlow is planning to move permanently to Port-au-Prince in 2010 to coordinate and direct aid and support efforts.
